Our workshops explore themes in engaging, practical ways that provoke debate. Themes vary from world culture to projects that explore identity and citizenship. Activities are adapted to suit the age group. Themes include:
Shadows and Light: The Story of Diwali
Chinese New Year
World Water Day
The Enchanted Forest
Portraits and Identity
Celebratory events evolve from consultation with the community and culminate in a finale which could take the form of a large scale installation, performance or festival. Past events have included the installation of an Olympic flame in 2012 (approx 5m x 20m, illustrated above). The installation was animated with the use of concealed lighting and superimposed projections.
Bespoke arts rich activities are designed in line with specific needs and strategic goals. For example, in the project illustrated above, an origami leaflet packaged in an apostrophe, delivered to children via an apostophe making machine, provided a fun and memorable way to learn about the correct usage of the apostrophe. This helped raise standards in grammar for Year 10 pupils at this Academy.
